The Montessori Magnet located at Moylan School is a neighborhood elementary school that has two openings on their School Governance Council (SGC) and they have reached out to the College to see if there is interest from our campus community in serving on this committee.
The School Governance Council (SGC) is a committed group of parents, teachers, students, community members and the principal who work together to make important decisions that affect the academic success of all students in their school community.
What are the functions of the School Governance Council?
-Analyze school achievement data and school needs
-Assist in developing and approving the School Accountability Plan
-Advise the principal on and approve the school’s budget
-Assist in developing and approving the School Compact
-Advise and assist principal with analysis of annual climate survey
-Assist principal with programmatic/operational changes
-Participate in the interview process of the school principal
The commitment is for 2 years and the schedule of meetings and training for this school year are:
-Wednesday, December 4 – Training
-Wednesday, December 11 – Training
-Wednesday, January 8, 5 p.m. - Meeting
-Wednesday, February 5, 5 p.m. - Meeting
-Wednesday, March 5, 5 p.m. - Meeting
-Wednesday, April 9 - Training
-Wednesday, April 23 - Training
-Wednesday, May 7, 5 p.m. - Meeting
-Wednesday, May 14 - Training
-Tuesday, June 3 – Training
Expectations of a School Governance Council Member:
- Commitment: Perform duties with integrity, discretion, and loyalty
- Attendance: Attend all required meetings on time
- Participation: Actively participate in all mandatory trainings
Grades Served: Pre-K 3-4th Grade (School will grow each year by one grade to 6th Grade)
Special Points: As children grow in the Montessori community, they become self-motivated, independent, confident, young people, well prepared for the future!
