The Lessons and Carols service is one of Hartford’s oldest continuing traditions of celebrating the upcoming Christmas season, and will include music of the season offered by the Trinity College Chapel Singers (the oldest continuing student group on campus), the Trinity College Concert Choir, and the Trinity College Guild of Carillonneurs.
Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra will be a reader at the 4 p.m. service, which has ushered in the beginning of the holiday season for many in the Greater Hartford community. Due to the anticipated crowds, early arrival is encouraged.
The service, known as the Christmas Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, is a tradition followed by Anglican and other Christian churches worldwide. Trinity began conducting this service in 1958, following the Anglican ceremony established at Kings College in Cambridge, England in 1918. In this service, the community hears and receives the story of “God with us” through nine passages of scripture along with carols and anthems of Christmas. Readers are chosen from among the wider College and Hartford community. For more on the annual event, visit: http://bit.ly/UPRkqb.
