Trained as a secondary school teacher in Honduras in the 1960s, Escoto later earned a B.A. in Latin American literature from the University of Florida—Gainesville, and an M.A. from the University of Costa Rica in Latin American literature. He has published more than ten novels, short stories, numerous essays; published many literary journals; and edited literary and historical works for distinguished Honduran scholars and writers. Currently he publishes a column in El Heraldo, one of Honduras’s most widely-read newspapers.
