Megan Kate Nelson, Visiting Assistant Professor at Brown University
Professor Nelson is a cultural and environmental historian of nineteenth-century America and the American Civil War. After earning her PhD in American Studies from the University of Iowa in 2002, she taught at Texas Tech University, California State University at Fullerton, and Harvard University. She is the author of Trembling Earth: A Cultural History of the Okefenokee Swamp (Georgia, 2005) and Ruin Nation: Destruction and the American Civil War (Georgia, 2012) in addition to numerous articles, film and television reviews, and columns for the New York Times Disunion blog. Her current book project is a narrative history of the Civil War in the desert Southwest.
                            
Two separate sessions:  12:15-1:00 p.m. and 1:00-1:45 p.m.
