MUSC-119 Musical-Theater Productions (.25 credit)
Gerald Moshell, Director
The Department of Music announces auditions for its Fall Musical, Into the Woods, by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. Directed by Erik Bloomquist; musical direction by Gerald Moshell.
Auditions will take place in Austin Arts Center 112 (lower level) and will last about 12 minutes. Please sign up for an audition slot on the bulletin board to the right of room 112.
Tuesday, September 3: 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Wednesday, September 4: 2:00-5:00 p.m. and 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Please prepare a Broadway-type song for which you can supply an extra copy of the piano part for the accompanist (a copy will do, and the accompanist is provided); you must sing with accompaniment, though you needn’t sing from memory. For help in locating material, books of Broadway tunes are on reserve at the Main Circulation Desk on Level A of the Raether Library. A text reading will be supplied at the audition; there is no dance audition.
Into the Woods will be performed in Garmany Hall on October 24-26. Group vocal rehearsals (probably two per week for one-and-a-half hours each) and staging rehearsals will be scheduled to coordinate with actors’ academic schedules. Students can receive .25 course credit (Music 119) for participation in Into the Woods, and personnel for offstage technical help (stage management, props, etc.) are also needed.

Each year, the Department of Music presents a varied slate of musical-theater productions: a revue-type show of staged and choreographed scenes and excerpts from Broadway shows; a festival of smaller-scale shows; and a more elaborate main stage production. Shows presented during the past two years include, among others, Rent, Spring Awakening, Next to Normal, The Street Clothes Revue, and A Festival of Winter Shows. Trinity College has the most extensive musical-theater offerings of any liberal arts college of its academic standing!
