What: Fashion design internships based out of sugarplum in Southington, CT
Where: At home and on location. Work out of the sugarplum shop, attend photo shoots, runway shows and special fashion events.
When: 2 month internships now available beginning on the first of each month.
Why: Gain valuable experience in research, designing, garment care, networking, model & stylist casting, fashion production, marketing and event production.
Details:
Week 1: Start by getting to know sugarplum- learn how to identify core market & design principles. Create an inspiration board for your own collection.
Week 2: Conduct market research based on cut, pattern and color. Begin to sketch your own designs. Research other designers for inspiration.
Week 3: Learn how to market yourself as a designer and get people excited about your work. Start casting for models and stylists by compiling model and stylist books.
Week 4: Create a prototype of your design. Learn basic construction skills such as sewing, printing, dyeing or pattern making.
Week 5: Begin event planning for debut of your new design. Prepare invitations. Model fittings and photo shoot planning.
Week 6: Continue work in event planning. Professional photo shoot with your model and stylist.
Week 7: Host your event to debut your new look. Take orders or sell right in the store. Assess the event and turn out; customer reaction to your design.
Week 8: Fill your orders and send thank you letters to your buyers. Learn about follow up and good customer service.
