Arlene A. Forastiere, M.D. ’71 is senior vice president of medical affairs at Eviti, Inc. and chair of Eviti’s medical advisory board.  Eviti is an innovative, collaborative approach to improving access to the most appropriate, evidence-based treatment for each individual patient, and facilitating more efficient communication between oncologists and insurers in any cancer care setting. Arlene is an internationally recognized expert in the treatment of cancers of the head, neck, larynx, and esophagus. She also is professor of oncology at the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center.  Arlene was chair of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines panel for head and neck cancer until 2009 and chair of the head and neck cancer committees of two of the nation’s largest clinical trial research organizations, the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group and the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group. She is member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), where she served on the board of directors and was chair of the public issues committee and the education committee. In 2008, Arlene was honored with the ASCO Statesman Award for her commitment and service to the organization and contributions to research, education, and patient care. She was associate editor of the Journal of Clinical Oncology (1999-2010).  Arlene served on the Food and Drug Administration Oncology Drugs advisory board. She obtained her fellowship specialty training in hematology-oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and then held a research position at the Baltimore Cancer Research Program of the National Cancer Institute and was on the faculty at the University of Maryland’s School of Medicine. This was followed by a faculty appointment at the University of Michigan’s Medical School in Ann Arbor, MI. Arlene has been on the faculty of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine since 1988. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine with subspecialty certification in medical oncology. Arlene received her M.D. from New York Medical College ’75. She is a graduate of Trinity College ’71. Arlene served as Trinity College Trustee (1985-1991) and is the recipient of the 175th Anniversary Award (1999) and the Alumni Medal for Excellence (1991).
 
 
Common Hour intends to offer the Trinity community an opportunity to absent themselves from daily tasks and concerns, gather, and engage in topics of interest and enjoy performances, lectures, discussions, and readings that enrich our cultural and intellectual lives. The designated weekly hours also seek to showcase the best of what occurs within our campus community.  A light lunch will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis during Tuesday Common Hour. If you plan on bringing a class or group to a Tuesday Common Hour program, please e-mail common-hour@trincoll.edu in order for adequate food to be requested.
